How to Strengthen Your Leadership Credibility

Do what you say—every time. Even small broken promises weaken trust. Be known as someone whose word means something.

Admit when you’re wrong. Leaders who own their mistakes gain more respect, not less. Vulnerability builds trust.

Be consistent. Your team should always know what to expect from you—no shifting moods, no double standards.

Explain decisions openly. Even if people don’t like a decision, they’ll trust it more if they understand it.

Try This Today: The “Trust Audit”

Ask yourself these questions—and be brutally honest:

👉 Would I follow a leader who led the way I do?
👉 Does my team feel safe telling me hard truths?
👉 Do I follow the same standards I expect from others?

If you hesitate on any of these, it’s time to strengthen your credibility.

Trust Isn’t a Given—It’s Built Every Day

If your team trusts you, they’ll go above and beyond. If they don’t, they’ll disengage, question decisions, and do the bare minimum. The difference isn’t in what you say—it’s in how you show up every day.

In Lead Forward!, I dive deeper into the leadership habits that create real trust, influence, and impact. If you want a team that believes in you, let’s make the shift together.
